“If it were me” – Coming out Stories by LGBTQ people and their allies
Voices from our community
Shared with you by St Paul’s without Walls

Join us for conversation and FREE pizza  at the first monthly gathering of Open Embrace. Come and become personally touched by stories from the St. Paul’s Without Walls community and from others who choose to share their personal stories.

The Evening’s Stories of Open Embrace include:

Coming out as a transgender youth: How do you discuss fluid gender norms?

Coming out as a lesbian youth: When family is not supportive?

A parent’s story: My fears when my child came out

Coming out as transgender in middle age. What have I missed by not coming out sooner?

As time allows, everyone present will be offered an opportunity share their story as well as ideas about what would be important to them in a newly forming LGBTQ inclusive community.

The Depot Coffee House, is at 9451 Excelsior Blvd, Hopkins, MN 55343

Who is St. Paul’s Without Walls?

We are a local faith community that has been dedicated to hospitality, social justice, inclusiveness and LGBTQ issues for over 60 years. We played a prominent role in opposition to the marriage amendment. We have always welcomed and openly embraced everyone. This initiative intends to form a greater community connected by an openly embracing relationship.

Services Sundays, 9:30 AM at the Open Circle building, 34 10th Ave S, in downtown Hopkins

Forming a Circle of Support – Stories from the Journey

Join us for conversation and free pizza and listen to stories from individuals who have formed a circle of support on their own

*  What was tried?
*  What was successful? What didn’t work?
*  How they reached out to potential allies?

Discuss how a community can offer the types of support that our speakers established.

November 20 is Transgender Day of Remembrance. We will be honoring the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.

You are invited to share a short reading or a poem.

Holidays are challenging for many of us. The world gets our expectations built up about peace, good will and acceptance, but we are too often let down. Take this opportunity to gather with the Open Embrace family, dedicated to accepting and embracing “everyone as they are”. We have had 28 present in each of our other two gatherings and the experiences were described as enlightening and enriching.

We will be collecting non-perishable food items or donations of money for ICA, our local food shelf.
